Salts Mill visit

I really enjoyed visiting Salts Mill in Saltaire, a huge space dedicated to David Hockney enriched with culture through the decor and jewellery shops, the cafe, restaurant and various gallery spaces.

The curtains on the left were something really fun that I spotted. This design of dancing men in top hats, I found to be really quirky and eye catching. I would like to explore further abstract characterisation, and how to bring such ideas to life in everyday applications.

I particularly liked the art shop, which was surrounded by the works oh Hockney. It was a truly memorable experience. With opera music being played and reverberating through the space, I stayed in the room for a while simply dazzled by the sensory experience that have been created by the music, paintings, prints and smells from the materials. It is rare that music is played in a gallery space, and I found it really enjoyable.

I had previously seen Hockney's iPad drawings in the Royal Academy a few years back, however, at the time is was relatively revolutionary for an acknowledged artist to do something like this. Seeing them again after this technique has become more applied and populist, especially through the digitalisation of drawing within the Illustration and Graphic Design industries, was interesting. I found his bright use of colouring and rough marks, which from a far add great depth and detail the the images, to be intriguing and a style I would be interested to see could be brought further in the current technological age (such as through VHR headsets even).
