The business cards developed alongside the postcard pack in order to maintain a consistent and coherent brand strategy.
With my new logotype
in place, I needed to evolve the design in a way that highlighted the key
concepts of me as playful, sustainable, inclusive, social and a strong believer
of the old informing the new / learning from mistakes.
Film photography
has been a large part of my practice for the last two years, with the extended
compositions attracting most of my external freelance jobs. As such, it was
felt this should be the basis of the branding – the accentuation of colour and
line within a composition. The design
therefore evolved in accordance with this, with the idea of producing a
postcard series that would both show off what I can do, and send a positive
message. This was a great way to include some of my compositional work, and to find
a relevant context for them.
The final postcard images were colour swatched to get a relevant
and vibrant palette in place for the branding guidelines. A series of the most
successful five colours were chosen that best encompass the series and my tastes.
The colour scheme is both vibrant and neutral responding to the scope of varied
tastes of employers and clients I will intend to be reaching.
These colours
then informed the production of the business cards. The layout utilised the conventional
design grid in a colourful way, and a slight noise texture was added to reflect
the film photography in the postcard pack, and allude to my practice of combining
the analogue with the digital.
