Jazz

After watching the film 'Bird' (1988), a Clint Eastwood film about the troubled life and career of the jazz musician, Charlie "Bird" Parker, I wanted to explore the aesthetic of the Jazz era more. The bold and soulful colours, combined with strong musical imagery really gives a nostalgic and warm feel to the compositions found. I particularly liked the warping of scale to distort perception and give a flow to the imagery that resembles the sound waves of the music itself.

I was asked by some friends to design them a new phone background, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to use my new Wacum and create some digital drawings inspired by Jazz.

The focus for the images was on layers and bold primary colours. I drew whilst listening to the film's soundtrack to aid the motions of the drawings.

This was the final poster that was digitally printed in A3.
